About Army ROTC

The Army Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC) provides college students with the opportunity to combine world-class leadership and management training with their other academic studies. The curriculum, which consists of a series of classroom and hands-on leadership training experiences, provides students with the necessary foundation to serve successfully in positions of responsibility in either the Army or the corporate world.

Those with a strong academic background, an active mindset and the ability to rapidly assimilate information thrive in the program. These scholar-athlete-leaders note that the leadership skills developed through their participation in the program are further honed during their period of service as Army officers. After service as an Army lieutenant, many graduates elect to continue their service in uniform.

Others elect to enter the corporate world where their leadership skills and experience as ROTC-trained Army officers allows them to advance rapidly.

Examples of those who have achieved success in their chosen field of endeavor as a consequence of their ROTC training are plentiful. Army ROTC is proud to number Sam Walton, founder of Wal-Mart; Colin Powell, former U.S. Secretary of State and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff; and Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito among the half-million men and women who have graduated from the program.

Although the program is designed to be completed in four years, students may complete all requirements within a two year period - through participation in a summer training session called the Leader's Training Course. A generous series of merit-based scholarships exist to help students and their families defray the cost of college tuition.

Tax-free stipends of up to $500 per month are also available to those meeting course requirements. For more information on the program call 1-800-USA-ROTC or contact the Professor of Military Science at a college near you.
