Captain Dominic Black

As WCAP Commander, Capt. Dominic Black is responsible for overseeing athletic and military training with the goal of molding Army athletes into Olympians. Black brought nearly a decade of WCAP experience as an athlete when he took the reins as commander on July 15, 2006.

Black’s career wrestling accomplishments include: Military World Champion in 2003; Army Male Athlete of the Year in 2003; and two-time Senior National Champion. In June 2004, the Lexington, Ky., native was reassigned to 10th Special Forces Group and deployed to Iraq for five months. It wasn’t long before Black returned to WCAP.

“Coming back here feels like I came full circle. I was thrilled they called and asked if I was interested,” Black said.

Black works to impart the knowledge he gained as an Army WCAP wrestler to the athletes under his command – emphasizing the importance of becoming a disciplined, elite-level athlete.

“The Army enhanced the discipline I brought to my sport and built my character a little more. It also helped me be a more confident goal setter and really enhanced the team-building aspects of my training. Rely on your buddies and your buddies rely on you,” he said.
