Lieutenant Colonel Frank Muggeo

Lt. Col. Frank Muggeo assumed command of the Army Marksmanship Unit at Fort Benning, Ga., on May 23, 2007. As commander, he is responsible for maintaining the high standards of marksmanship throughout the Army and enhancing the combat readiness through the unit’s provision of technical and advisory assistance in the development of military small arms, equipment and ammunition.
“Our mission is to improve the marksmanship across the Army and we do that in a variety of ways. Competitions provide us instant credibility and we also do multiple training venues across the U.S. and across the world.”

Before stepping in as the AMU commander, he served as the assistant for Plans and Operations for Strategic Command Joint Forces Component Command, International Military Division. He has deployed on tours to Haiti, Kuwait, Afghanistan, Bosnia and Iraq where he served as an advisor to an Iraqi Army Brigade.

Lt. Col. Muggeo commanded a Special Forces Operational A Detachment with the 1st Battalion, 5th Special Forces Group. He also served in NATO Allied Forces Northern Command and as the program manager for Special Operation Counter proliferation at the Defense Threat Reduction Agency in Alexandria, Va. Muggeo’s Army career started upon graduation from Western Connecticut State University in 1987. He was commissioned as a 2nd Lt. and initially served as a field artillery officer.
